Statement from Rep. McDermed on Graduated Income Tax Vote

Springfield, IL…. State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) voted no and issued the following statement after House voted 73-44 to approve a referendum effort to remove the flat tax provision in the Illinois Constitution:

“Today’s vote was a doubling down on the failed Illinois policies of spending, taxing, and borrowing. We’re doubling down on chasing out the middle class and job creators. Make no mistake, the Illinois General Assembly is refusing to address the biggest cost drivers of the budget or to stop doling out money for new programs and therefore any graduated income tax will eventually hit the majority of Illinoisans.”
