Rep. McDermed Issues Statement Following Adoption of House Rules

Springfield, IL… State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) has issued the following statement regarding the partisan adoption of House Rules to the 101st Illinois General Assembly:

“Today, yet again the House Majority voted in lockstep with Speaker Madigan with the effect of continuing his vice-like grip on the Illinois political process. By voting today to affirm his House Rules, which as written effectively deny transparency and curtail the efforts of rank and file legislators, they have all but ensured that nothing in this State will happen without his express approval. Today is a significant step backward from the bipartisan goals of this new GA and new administration which had been so effusively spouted earlier this month. A number of incoming freshmen rode in on a wave of progressivism and independence from Speaker Madigan only to betray those campaign promises the first chance they had. I am disappointed in the result, but will continue to do all that I can to represent my constituents, even given the enormous constraints today placed upon our minority party to help the GA govern effectively.”
