Below are some updates on upcoming events I am hosting in the district:
Second Senior Driving Seminar
Due to the overwhelming response we received to our senior driving seminar last month, my office worked with the Secretary of State’s office to schedule another as soon as we could. Our second seminar will be next Tuesday July 25th at the Pipe Fitters Local 597, 10850 W. 187th St. in Mokena at 10am. With this new venue we can accommodate more people, but unfortunately we cannot provide any food, only water. We have attempted to reach out to everyone who put themselves on the waiting list for the earlier seminar. If you haven’t heard from us or you would like to sign up for this great opportunity to relearn the rules of the road, please call my office.
Blood supply shortages are not uncommon during the summer months when accidents increase and the rate of donation is down, but it’s being reported that the shortage Illinois is experiencing this year is significantly worse than in years past. I’m proud to sponsor my third annual blood drive with Heartland Blood Centers next month. Donating takes less than an hour and yet it makes a world of difference. Please call my office to sign up for a time to donate on Wednesday August 9th from 3:30-7:30 pm.
Women’s Self Defense Class
I’m once again bringing in instructors from One Light Self Defense to give a basic understanding of how to avoid becoming a victim of violence and teach skills that can be used in the event of an attack. My second women’s self defense seminar this summer will be Tuesday August 8th at 6pm at the Frankfort Public Library (meeting room B). For more information or to reserve your spot in class, contact my office as space is limited. The class is free, but donations to the non-profit One Light are encouraged. 100% of donations go to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, or sexual assault.
I hope your kids are enjoying summer so far! I want to remind everyone about my summer reading club, which challenges students who will be in 1st through 5th grades to read 10 books during their summer break. The deadline for completion of the challenge is Friday, Aug 11th. After my office has collected all of the forms, kids who have successfully completed the readings will be invited to participate in an ice cream party in late summer or early fall. Each reader will receive an official certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives. A pamphlet with more information on the summer reading club can be found here.
If you have any questions or for more information about these events, please don’t hesitate to call my office at (815) 277-2079.
