99th General Assembly Sworn In

Springfield…On Wednesday, the House of Representatives for the State of Illinois was sworn in; marking the opening of business for the 99th General Assembly. For the 37th District, Margo McDermed of Mokena was chosen by the voters in the November elections. McDermed had been sworn in early on January 8th to serve in the final session day of the 98th General Assembly following the early retirement of Representative Renée Kosel. Kosel has stated that the early swearing in of Representative McDermed will allow her a better position for committee assignments, which may benefit the 37th District.

“Today I was officially sworn in to the 99th General Assembly and I cannot wait to get to work,” stated McDermed. “Illinois is in terrible financial shape, I don’t think that will surprise anyone, but we finally have a glimmer of hope that better times are coming. Two days ago, Governor Rauner was sworn in and I was inspired by his call to action. Illinois cannot wait any longer, the people of Illinois deserve quick action and that is exactly what I intend to do.”

The 118 members of the Illinois House of Representatives were sworn in at the University of Illinois in Springfield before family, friends, and supporters.

“I am honored to serve as State Representative the for the 37th District,” said McDermed. “I am continually humbled by the support and trust of the people of our district. Throughout my service I will always strive to bring the voice of the 37th District to Springfield. My office will be open to everyone and I urge constituents to contact us if there is ever anything they need, or if they have an issue they would like to bring to my attention.”

McDermed was elected by the voters of the 37th District on November 4th of last year. The 37th District consists of all or portions of New Lenox, Mokena, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Joliet, Lockport, and Orland Park. Representative McDermed will be opening a new office located at 11032 W Lincoln Highway in Frankfort. She can also be reached through her new website located at www.RepMcDermed.com.
