Springfield…On Thursday, Margo McDermed of Mokena was sworn as State Representative for the 37th District to finish the unexpired term of now retired State Representative Renée Kosel. Representative Kosel resigned her seat a few days early to give McDermed, and the 37th District, an advantage over other incoming freshman legislators who will be sworn in on January 14th. Representative McDermed expressed her eagerness to get started in her new role serving the people of the district.

“I am thrilled and honored to serve as State Representative,” said McDermed. “November 4th seems like such a long time ago, I am eager to get started. Illinois is in financial turmoil, there is much work to be done, but I am up to the task and I look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats to bring fiscal sanity back to our state.”

Representative McDermed was sworn in by Sangamon County Judge Peter Cavanagh of the 7th Circuit. Joining Representative McDermed was House Republican Leader Jim Durkin who pledged his support to help McDermed as she begins serving the 37th District.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Margo McDermed to the Illinois General Assembly,” said House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs). “She is an energetic leader with extensive corporate law experience. I look forward to working with Margo and know she will do a great job as State Representative.”
